Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez has been a Mexican American performer, actress, and songwriter for many years. Sara Ramirez was raised by her American mother and faced a lot racial taunts, which led her to feel unwelcome. In the ninth grade, after a school audition in which she was praised for her singing as she built confidence. The experience not only increased her confidence but also changed the direction of her career. She attended New York's Julliard School at the age of 22. In 1993 she had her Broadway debut in Paul Simon's The Capeman. Her first film was You've Got Mail. However her greatest breakthrough came when she played the role of The Lady of The Lake in the first Broadway performance of Spamalot receiving not just her the Tony Award for her performance as well as a lot of critical praise. In the following year, when she was Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy on ABC the show, she received more appreciation. The actress is also a renowned artist and published an extended version of her play. She is also an activist and works extensively in the field of LGBT rights.
